Summer Holiday

Dear Readers,

Hope you're all keeping as well as possible. Terry and I have just returned from our summer holiday. We weren’t able to go away last year due to moving house and as anyone who has moved knows, it takes up a lot of your money! It has now been eight months since we moved in, and we are loving life!

When the heatwave hit (although rain is predicted every day this week!), I bought us an 8ft swimming pool - as you do! Haha! It was lovely, and even Izzy had her own little paddling pool. With an iced frappe in one hand and chilling in the pool, we have been living the high life!

Anyway, back to our holiday…We decided to return to Cornwall this year. Not only does it save money on my travel insurance, but it’s such a dog-friendly place, so Izzy could come with us too. We had so much fun there two years ago, we had to go back! This time, we stayed in St Agnes in a beautiful little Shepherd’s Hut with its own hot tub. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side and most of our hot tub time was in the rain. We still had fun!

On our way to St Agnes, we stopped off in Looe again, just like last time. We enjoyed fish and chips on the beach, and it was a nice way to break up the six-hour journey.

We also visited Land’s End, as neither of us had been before. It was super windy, but still really cool to be at the most south-westerly point in Britain. The famous sign is still there, but we decided not to take a photo with it, as we were being a bit stingy, not wanting to pay £12 for one! We enjoyed walking around the area, which is very accessible, and we are glad we made the visit.

We went to Mevagissey, a sweet little harbourside village that reminded us a lot of Looe. We didn't stay long, as there wasn't much for us to do, but we enjoyed wandering around and taking in the scenery. We also returned to Perranporth, where we stayed last time. We absolutely loved it there and had to go back. We went to The Tea Rooms and had the best cream teas ever - highly recommend!

One of the days was a total washout with rain, so we decided to visit the Cornwall Seal Sanctuary. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to learn how they care for injured seals and get them strong enough to release back into the wild. We even saw some puffins! The sanctuary is quite hilly, but they have a ‘disability van’ that takes you from the entrance to the main area where the seals are. This definitely saved me from getting too tired, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. It is also dog-friendly!

Terry really wanted to try coasteering whilst we were there, so he booked a session with Newquay Coasteering. His instructor Fred was amazing - again highly recommended! Terry had a fabulous time, and Izzy and I enjoyed a walk along the clifftops (don’t worry, we didn’t go too close!) while watching him jump into the sea. Yes, that is Terry in the photo jumping into the sea!

We really enjoyed staying in St Agnes. It had six pubs to choose from, which are all very good! For our final night, we had a romantic meal at The Taphouse and the food was divine. The weather did improve as the week went on, which meant we were able to spend some time at the beach. Most beaches in Cornwall are dog-friendly, although some have summer bans or lead-only rules. Our nearest beach was Trevaunance Cove, a lovely sandy beach where Izzy dipped her paws in the sea, although she isn't a big fan of water! Here is a dog-friendly Cornwall beach list: click here.

I cannot forget to mention our tradition, which is wherever we go, we always squeeze in a round of mini golf. This time, I found a new course that was still dog-friendly. We had a great game, though Terry still holds the crown, by beating me by just one point! Next time, I am taking that title back! Haha!

Overall, we had a wonderful time and did not let the rain dampen our spirits. Of course, we brought home some Cornish pasties and this time, they made it all the way back (last time we ate them on the way!). The journey home was long and tiring as we left at 9:30am and finally got home at 8:30pm. Thankfully, we have had the weekend to rest and recharge before returning to work this week.

Health-wise, I am doing well! I have increased the dose of my water tablets, which has helped a lot. My heart is doing well, and my medical team and I have decided I do not need an IRL implant, which is great news! With the summer holidays approaching, my work schedule changes a bit, which gives me more flexibility and some much-needed chill time.

It is good to be home and getting back into our usual routine. We have got lots of exciting things coming up next month, like catching up with friends, and of course, the 'Together25' event with the PHA UK. Let us know if you are going and we will look out for you!
